Born and brought up in South Devon, Heléna’s early CV included a number of illustrious character-forming holiday jobs like caravan scrubber, potato picker and serving wench. All of which has stood her in good stead throughout her career in third sector management, leadership and governance and never more so than during the two days of the Commando Challenge.
From 1990 she worked in mental health rehabilitiation, youth services and community development in London. Heléna returned to her home county in 2007 to take up what she calls ‘the best job in Devon’ leading one of the county’s highest profile charities Devon Air Ambulance.
Devon’s two Air Ambulances are supported entirely by and for the people and businesses of Devon and its visitors. The Trust’s success and future viability depend on forming genuine relationships with its operational partners, supporters, suppliers, volunteers and staff.
An enthusiastic practitioner rather than an expert, Heléna is passionate about the value of social media as a mechanism for charities to put the fun into fundraising, reach out and be accountable to people and create a community of lasting support.
